the state of horror

I think that people have lost touch with their imaginations. At least, 99% of the people involved in producing Hollywood horror. Well, maybe they were never in touch with their imaginations at all. Over the past few years we have had a rash of terribly done remakes of "classic" American films as well as every Hollywood studio buying up the rights to, and then royally f*** up Japanese horror as well. People need to reach down deep and ask themselves "what scares me?". Once they do that, new doors to the terrible will open up and spew forth new and terrible things to go bump in the night. I am not a small man. I am over 6 feet tall and weigh in access of 240 lbs. But there are movies and books that make me behave like a ten year old. The original "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" for example, gut wrenching and terribly real. That movie makes me so uneasy its ridiculous. Or reading H.P. Lovecraft in the middle of the night and having to tell yourself that you're not going crazy, that the Elder God's aren't real, that we're not on a collision course with the unworldly devourer of worlds that lay in wait to destroy mankind...I like that. I like it when people have IMAGINATIONS. Granted, Lovecraft wrote in the eraly 1900's, but I challenge you to read him and not have your imagination go nearly crazy with dread. Hopefully, anything that SUN-STARVED produces will terrify you. Hopefully I can use what people like Hooper, Romero and Lovecraft have taught me and we can produce new, imaginative short-form films...after all, horror is all about being, well, horrified.
